FAQs

The project aims to improve the N58 through Foxford to reduce traffic within the town and improve the amenity and setting of the town.
The improvements aim to:
• alleviate congestion;
• improve journey times;
• provide for safer and more reliable journeys;
• improve the environment for vulnerable users, pedestrians and cyclists within Foxford;
• provide improved facilities for public transport.
The TII Project Management Guidelines (PMG) (https://www.tiipublications.ie/advanced-search/results/document/?id=3026)will inform the design process. The design phases are also outlined in our project roadmap on the About Tab.
The project team, ROD-AECOM, Mayo County Council, conjunction with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), are progressing the project development in accordance with the TII Project Management Guidelines (PMG),(https://www.tiipublications.ie/advanced-search/results/document/?id=3026) and as outlined in our project roadmap, please refer to the About Tab.
We are currently in Phase 1 of the PMG phases, holding the first non-statutory public consultation to invite the residents of the local area, members of the public and interested parties to provide feedback on the Study Area and the Constraints identified therein.
Subject to TII approval, the project will progress to Phase 2 towards the end of 2025, where options will be developed to address the deficiencies of the existing road network. There will be a second non-statutory public consultation following the development of these options and initial sifting of options.
If lands are required for the improvements, it is likely that these will be acquired by a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO); however, this can also be done by agreement with the landowner. Should any part of a person’s private land/ property holding be included in the CPO, the land/property owner is entitled to compensation. This may also be the case for a person who may have an interest in any land/ property identified in the CPO. Compensation will be provided in accordance with CPO legislation.
Given the nature of the study area encompassing the town of Foxford, it is possible that a property or properties may be affected, and it is also possible that a small proportion may need to be purchased to facilitate the scheme. Each property is considered a constraint and in so far as possible, the scheme will seek to avoid and/ or minimise direct impacts on properties.
Mayo County Council Planning Department have the responsibility for planning and managing development within the County. New planning applications within the study area may have an impact on the delivery of this future project. Planning applications and new developments may still be granted within the study area/route corridor options, however as some planning applications may affect the project, all relevant planning applications will be reviewed by the design team as they are processed through the planning system. Each application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
As the scheme progresses, the study area will be reduced following confirmation of the preferred route corridor, and only applications in the vicinity of the preferred route corridor will be reviewed by the design team.
Accesses to all properties and lands will be provided, however the location or form of access may require modification to comply with current design standards.
Mayo National Road Office is leading the project for Mayo County Council in conjunction with TII.
Please refer to our Contact Tab which outlines how to get in contact with members of the project team.
The project team will consider all inputs from members of the public through each of the three planned non-statutory public consultation events. This feedback will help to inform the Option Selection process and the selection of the Preferred Option.
During Phase 3, when the design has reached a level of maturity where informed discussions can take place, the Project Team will consult with directly impacted landowners in relation to the initial design and its impact on their land and property. Thereafter, feedback will be considered, and amendments may be made, where feasible, before finalising the design.
The project team welcome the opportunity to engage with you on the development of this infrastructure project and look forward to receiving your feedback.
